When a Community Unites for Children With Type 1 Diabetes: Metukim & DISONCARE | Mexico City

Some moments change Iife forever. For many families, that moment comes with an unexpected diagnosis: type 1 diabetes. It's a cold shower that shakes everything. Suddenly, childhood becomes filled with numbers, schedules, sensors, injections, fear... and aIso a strength no one knew they had.
Children remain children—brave and radiant—but now they live with a condition that demands constant care. Families learn, stumble, rise, and above all, seek to avoid feeling alone.
Two years ago, Metukim was born from that deep need for companionship. This association was created based on the real experiences of several children with type 1 diabetes, aiming to support families in Mexico's Jewish community so they don't have to walk this path alone.

Since then, Metukim has been supporting families in various ways, especially from the moment of diagnos is when everything feels confusing, overwhelming, and filled with fear. They provide close companionship and emotional support, clearly explaining the basics of type 1 diabetes, addressing real concerns, and sharing practical, useful, and down-to-earth tips for daily Iife.

Additionally:

● Equip school staff to ensure chiIdren feeI safe at school without parents constantly worrying.

● They accompany the children when the parents need to travel.

● They are forming a network of trained babysitters for children with diabetes.

● They have the professional support of a trauma psychotherapist and a diabetes educator.

● And something fundamental: they help families install the latest technology from day one, so they can rest easy with alarms, sensors, and constant monitoring.

All of this stems from the same goal: to support one another, because the community is the foundation of everything when living with a chronic condition.

At the Metukim 2025 event, held in Mexico City, 15 families gathered.
It was a space to introduce themselves, share stories, reflect, laugh, cry a little… and feel deeply supported.

One of the most special moments of the event was the delivery of 7 special thermoses to keep insulin cold, donated by the DISONCARE brand.

These coolers represent safety, peace of mind and freedom for families, as they allow insulin to be transported safely, maintaining its appropriate temperature at any time of day.
